CEBU CITY, Philippines - A wood dealer faces murder charges after he pushed a 15-year old girl off a cliff in Sitio (district) Parian, Barangay (village) San Sebastian, Samboan town, north Cebu last Saturday afternoon.
Senior Police Officer 1 Eneberto Gutana of the Samboan municipal police precinct said they arrested the suspect, Demosthenes Mirasol, at his home in Barangay Inadlay, Santander town on Tuesday morning.
Mirasol was identified by a deaf mute as the one responsible for the death of Myrish May Potil, a fourth-year high school student and resident of Samboan.
Potil's remains were found in an area 10 to 15 meters down a cliff.
The site is 300 meters away from her home.
Police said the witness recounted to them that Potil was on her way home after visiting her classmate's house for a school project.
Mirasol met her along the road at 2 p.m. and tried to rape her.
The victim fought back and the suspect hit her on the head with a rock.
When the suspect saw that she looked dead, he threw her down the cliff.
Samboan medico-legal officer Dr. Teresita Bucado said autopsy results showed the victim sustained a severe head injury.
Gutana said the victim's parents looked for her after she failed to come home that afternoon.
On reaching the site they saw the victim’s slippers and folder that was stained with blood sometime before 10 p.m. that same day.
Mirasol is now detained at the Samboan precinct.(Cebu Daily News)
