St. Luke’s, Davao City partnership on Lingap possible
« on: May 03, 2020, 11:40:25 AM »
DAVAO CITY – The top executive of St. Luke’s Medical Center did not rule out the possibility of partnering with the Davao City government on its Lingap sa Mahirap, a health program for indigent families.

Dr. Edgardo Cortez, president and chief executive officer of St. Luke’s Medical Center, also corrected public impression that St. Luke’s is only for the rich.

“I’d like to correct that. The rich is only 10 per cent of the class A and B. We cater across C market,” he pointed out .

"We are not the most expensive hospital,” Cortez added.

“There should not be a question of – if I can afford,” he stressed.

The establishment of St. Luke’s in Davao is reportedly a testament of St. Luke’s Medical Center’s unceasing endeavor to continuously provide accessible, top-tier medical care to a broader patient base.

Seen to rise in 2020 in Davao City, St. Luke’s will have the same standard of healthcare services not only for Dabawenyos, the Mindanaoans but also those from neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

Cortez said many, if not all, of the services offered by St. Luke’s at Global City in Taguig and Quezon City will be made available at St. Luke’s Davao.

Aside from the healthcare services, Cortez said the hospital will have good practices to protect the environment aligned to Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s administration of welcoming development but not at the expense of the environment.

Cortez said it’s 100 per cent assurance that the hospital will have good sewage system, facility for disposal of garbage, source of power, standards of sustainability.

On Saturday, Cortez formally announced St. Luke's is coming to Davao. St. Luke’s in Davao is the third St. Luke’s hospital in the country. It will be located within the 25-hectare newly-launched Azuela Cove in Lanang, this city. It will also include a Wellness Center designed for disease prevention, early diagnosis, and life coaching. St. Luke’s is an internationally-accredited healthcare institution.

Cortez said St. Luke’s Davao will also bring the same good key drivers of clinical outcomes – benchmark on success rate, patient safety, education, training, research, great patience experience and great experience. It will be a tertiary hospital with 250 beds.

There will be clinics which will be offered to the doctors for sale.

“That is their only investment,” Cortez said.

St. Luke’s Davao is also eyed for medical tourism. Cortez said this was expressed by President Rodrigo Duterte, who also wants Davao hospital to cater to medical tourists given that the city is a pathway from other countries like Indonesia, Brunei, and Saipan.

He cited the practice of Thailand which offers packages for medical patients with no exorbitant fees. St. Luke’s Davao, which will be headed by Jose Moran, currently the SVP and head of Medical Practice Group and the medical director of St. Luke’s Quezon City, will be designed ready for the future.

Currently, St. Luke’s is closing deal with the architect for St. Luke’s Davao. By October, the hospital would have the concept and design and by the second half of 2018, construction of the hospital will begin for a two-year period. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
