A Manila Bulletin EditorialCenturies of relations between the Philippines and Spain have established more than an umbilical cord that binds the two countries.
The signing of two memorandums of understanding between Philippines and Spain for projects on Philippine rural development and fisheries affirmed these ties. A total of 6 million euros (R378 million) will be provided by the government of Spain to fund two Philippine environmental and rural development programs. These programs will be implemented in the regions of Caraga and Bicol over a period of three years.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will implement these programs which will focus on sustainable management of coastal resources and the promotion of agro-economic activities to help reduce rural poverty and preserve the rural environment.
In almost every aspect of Philippine life and culture Spain expects interest and concern. These two accords on Philippine rural development demonstrate this unending Spanish concern.
We are deeply grateful to Spain’s abiding goodwill for our people’s well-being. Muchissimas Gracias. Maraming salamat po.
