INCIDENT REPORT: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to a maritime incident involving a distressed motorbanca in the vicinity waters off Zamboanga del Norte at around 03:00 a.m. on 02 December 2022.
Based on the investigation, the motorbanca with nine crew, including the boat captain, encountered bad weather and rough sea condition while en route to Dipolog City from Hasiman Tanjung, Jolo, Sulu.
They accidentally hit a hard object that damaged the wooden hull, causing the seawater to enter the motorbanca.
Eventually, the half-submerged motorbanca drifted towards the vicinity waters off Liloy, Zamboanga Del Norte.
At around 03:40 a.m., the PCG was able to communicate with the crew and identified their location which was between the vicinity waters off Liloy and Dipolog City, Zamboanga Del Norte.
Consequently, the PCG coordinated with MV Empress Amy to conduct SAR operation.
At around 11:40 a.m., MV Empress Amy sighted the distressed motorbanca, rescued all crew, and brought them to the nearest shoreline.
MV Empress Amy also towed the distressed motorbanca to Lamao Port.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) personnel examined all crew and confirmed they were all in good physical condition:

3. Surafi Anapi, 43 - Brgy Tigtabon, Zamboanga City
4. Benjar Luntian, 42 - Brgy Sinunuc, Zamboanga City
5. Isa Musa, 42 - Brgy Recodo, Zamboanga City
6. Aldamer Alih, 30 - Brgy Ayala, Zamboanga City
7. Boy Saguile, 27 - Brgy Sta Catalina, Zamboanga City
8. Bader Barahim, 43 - Brgy Patalon, Zamboanga City
9. Magno Dalawis, 52 - Brgy Taluksangay, Zamboanga City
At around 04:32 p.m., the rescued crew were allowed to return to their respective residences.
