CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – About 1,000 victims of flash floods spawn by Tropical Depression “Maring” on Sept. 12 received grocery relief packs on Friday from SM City Calamba “Operation Tulong Express.”
Karen Christine H. Tiqui, SM City Calamba public relations officer told PNA on Friday that the relief goods were part of the SM Supermalls and the SM Foundation socio-civic responsibility for victims of disaster and calamities.
Tiqui said SM City Calamba, in cooperation with the SM Foundation, has mobilized an outreach program to extend support to residents hit by floodwaters from Laguna de Bay, especially in shoreline villages of Palingon, Lingga and Sampiruhan.
Elmundo Olazo, assistant Mall Manager of SM City Calamba spearheaded the “Operation Tulong Express” in coordination with the city government, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief Celine Manabat.
Mall employees, CSWDO staff and volunteers, with village officials, assisted in the distribution of the relief goods to the affected residents.
Knee-to-hip deep floodwaters inundated 12 barangays here, including the "Hot Spring Resort Capital” village of Pansol, Parian , at the height of "Maring." River surge at the swollen San Cristobal River also swept around 30 riverbank shanties of informal settlers. (PNA)
