The five Filipino seamen who survived a three-ship collision in Japan have been discharged from the hospital, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Saturday.

Quoting a report by Philippine Consul General in Osaka Maria Lourdes Ramiro-Lopez, DFA spokesman Claro Cristobal said the five Filipino seamen, who remain under the care of Japanese coast guard, are undergoing routine procedures related to the investigation on the collision.

Cristobal said Lopez met with the seamen as well as William Han, president of the Korean company that owns MV Gold Leader.

"Mr. Han assured Consul General Lopez that his company would bear all medical and repatriation costs and provide the benefits due the Filipino seamen or their families," Cristobal said.

The search operations for the two other missing Filipino seamen are still ongoing, he assured.

He added, meanwhile, that the remains of the two Filipino fatalities are expected to be repatriated to the Philippines next week.

Three vessels collided Wednesday in the Akashi Strait, part of Japan's Inland Sea. A 1,466-ton Belizean cargo ship with nine Filipino crew on board sank.

No one was hurt on the other two ships, an oil tanker and a small boat.

The body of a Filipino ship captain was recovered after it was pulled in by a fishing boat in its trawl net, He was the second Filipino fatality in the accident. Another Filipino crew member was rescued Wednesday but later died in a nearby hospital.

Collisions are common in the Akashi Strait, one of Japan's busiest bodies of water that links major cities in western Japan with the Pacific Ocean.
