San Pablo City dental association cautions public on “fake dentists”
SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna Aug. 10 – A former officer of the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) chapter here on Thursday cautioned the public on “fake dentists” illegally practicing dental medicine in this city.
Dr. Aloha B. Sarmiento-Señido, immediate past president of the dental association here, cautioned against the dental practice by unscrupulous persons without license and title as Doctor of Dental Medicine issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
She said there are reports of persons claiming to be registered dentists or dental technicians who offer cheaper rates to clients that might endanger their health.
Señido said the professional occupation or practice is covered under Republic Act No. 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007 which penalizes offenders with a fine of not less than Php 200,000 but not more than Php 500,000, or imprisonment from two to five years.
She said the practice by a licensed dentist covers dentures; tooth extraction and prophylaxis or removal of plaque, tartar and cavity treatment; tooth filling; dental implant, bracket or braces; and the prescription of medicines for tooth ailments.
The dental association officer also urged colleagues and the public to report to the association, police or licensed dentists any such bogus practice for the protection and safety of patients.
The PDA chapter here has waged their poster campaign against the do-it-yourself (DIY) usage of braces and illegal practice of dentistry. (Ruben E. Taningco/PNA)
