ILOILO CITY -- The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) is urging the support of the public in its fund-raising activity in support of law enforcers who have been charged administratively while in the performance of duty.
PRO 6 spokesperson Supt. Gilbert Gorero on Thursday said that the run-for-a-cause dubbed as “Dalagan Suporta sa Kapulisan” was conceptualized together with the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) for Police Transformation and Development.
It was initiated following the dismissal of Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento and his men but generated an “overwhelming sympathy and support from the community,” he said.
Sustento is a bemedalled policeman previously assigned as chief of the Ajuy municipal police station and team leader of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU).
The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered his dismissal for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
Gorero said the fun run slated this September 23, from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., will be held simultaneously in different provinces of Western Visayas.
Those who are interested to join are urged to register. For five kilometers, the registration fee will PHP150 for regular runners and PHP75 for students.
Registration fee for the three-kilometer run will be PHP100 for regular and PHP50 for students. T-shirts are also available at PHP250 each.
Gorero said the proceeds of the run will be used solely for the legal battle of policemen. (PNA)
