MEGHAN MARKLE'S ESTRANGED FATHER AND BROTHER START A NEW LIFE IN CEBU
Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has quietly relocated to Cebu, Philippines, alongside his son Thomas Jr., according to reports by The Mirror.
The pair now live in a £500-a-month (approx. ₱37,000) high-rise apartment—described as “grand by many folk in the Philippines.” Before settling in their new home, they reportedly stayed in a local three-star hotel as they adjusted to their new surroundings.
Thomas Markle, now 80, was once a Hollywood lighting director. He has faced serious health challenges in recent years, including two heart attacks and a stroke, and now uses a cane to move around. Despite the challenges, he shared that Southeast Asia appeals to him for its warm people, affordable healthcare, and peaceful lifestyle.
“In South East Asia the medical care is good, you can live reasonably cheaply, the people are kind and respect older people… Mostly I just want peace,” Markle previously said in an interview.
Though his relationship with Meghan has been strained since before her 2018 royal wedding, Thomas now seems focused on living out his remaining years away from the spotlight, seeking comfort, quiet, and connection in his new home abroad.
