BACOLOD CITY, Aug. 13 -- The average prevailing market price of dressed chicken in Negros Occidental dropped by PHP1.63 per kilo, market monitoring of the Provincial Veterinary Office showed.
As of Sunday, the PVO reported that from PHP158.79 per kilo in the last week of July, the price of dressed chicken in the province dropped to P157.15 per kilo.
Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said the low price is mainly attributed to low demand of chicken in some localities due to the decrease in social activities.
When both supply and demand are low, the price of the commodity will most likely decrease, he said.
Markets in Isabela town sell the highest price of dressed chicken at PHP175 per kilo.
The movement the price of the product in every locality also vary depending on the transport and handling cost from the dressing plant to the different selling points.
This is the second reported decrease in the average prevailing market price of dressed chicken in Negros Occidental since middle of last month.
In the previous monitoring, the PVO reported average price per kilogram of dressed chicken of PHP156, which is PHP2.75 per kilogram lower than the PHP158.75 reported in the past week.
Decena said the drop in price of the commodity during that time was due to the intra-provincial movement affected by intermittent rains.(Erwin P. Nicavera/PNA)
