PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- The city government here will launch a campaign in October that will require homeowners to register their pets in a renewed effort to prevent the spread of rabies.
City Veterinary Office (CVO) chief, Dr. Indira Santiago, said Monday afternoon that pet owners will be required a registration fee of PHP50.00 for each registered animal.
“If your pet is caught by the city pound and it’s not registered, then you will have to pay PHP2,000. If your pet dog bit anyone and it has not been vaccinated, PHP10,000 will be your penalty,” Santiago said.
Pet registration will start this October 1 in coordination with barangay leaders.
“This campaign has been strengthened to campaign against rabies, and we’re really involving the barangays to share the responsibility,” Santiago said.
Santiago added that homeowners who have more than three pets will be required to get permits from the CVO.
“If you have more than three dogs, you have to get a permit from the city vet for it to determine if you can own such number to take care of,” Santiago added.
The CVO wanted to strengthen the local barangay units for the campaign by giving them enough knowledge on their roles to carry out rabies control. (PNA)
