BACOLOD CITY -- The Regional Development Council (RDC-6) in Western Visayas has instructed officials of Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, to submit lists of their priority programs and projects that need national funding.
This was discussed during the meeting of officials here with Regional Director Ro-Ann Bacal of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-6), also vice chairperson of RDC-6; and Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo Jr. of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) at the Bacolod City Government Center Friday.
Bacal said she asked Provincial Planning and Development Officer Ma. Marlin Sanogal and Bacolod City Planning and Development Office head Mary Jane Ramos to provide the lists for inclusion in the Regional Development Investment Program.
Bacal said the NEDA-6 is crafting a regional development plan which now includes Negros Occidental.
The province reverted to Western Visayas following the abolition of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
“We would like to have a smooth transition and include the priority programs of Negros Occidental,” Bacal said.
On August 7, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) No. 38, revoking the creation of NIR, citing lack of funds.
Given this, the development plans and project proposals of both Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental under one region will be turned over to their former regions.
Sanogal earlier said both Negros provinces are working towards reverting back to their former regions given the 60-day transition period.
The process includes the conclusion of the operations of the regional offices under the NIR.
Last September 8, Negros Occidental rejoined the RDC-6 during its Third Quarter Meeting in Kalibo, Aklan.
The five private sector representatives of Negros Occidental also took their oath during the meeting. (PNA)
