DepEd E-learning program launched

Davao City (31 August 2005) -- An Electronic online learning program for Department of Education's teachers and principals was launched last Friday August 26, at the Department of Education regional office here in Davao City
Dubbed as the E-learning Space program, it utilizes web-based technology in its distant learning program and made for public school and teachers in Region 11, 12 and the Autonomous Region for Moslem Mindanao (ARMM) to improve their competencies in teaching and school management.
Gilbert Importante, Mindanao E-Learning Space manager said courses in Change Manangement, School Physical and Resources Management, Social Marketing and Constructivism in Teaching and Learning are offered to the teaching staff while participants are given CD-ROMS and learners guide for the program, and in the e-learning space, the participants are given assignments, exams, presentations and discussions.
Mr. Importante said that the web program saves cost since its isn't as expensive as maintaining a regular class and the units are credited in their Masteral program.
According to DepEd Undersecretary Fe Hidalgo the elearning program provides access to learners, facilitates teachings and improves quality learnings.
"There are interactive lessons, independent studies and independent learnings." Said Usec. Hidalgo.
The program is allocated at least P4 million a year until 2008 funded by the Australian Government's Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (BEAM) with a 10% counterpart funding from the Department of Education.
The program is in support of the Education for All program of the President's Arroyo's BEAT THE ODDS agenda.
