Filipino seafarers are now perceived by many as among the best in the world, an international maritime official said on Thursday.

Graham Young, International Transport of Workers Federation (ITF) head of Maritime Operations in London said the Filipino mariners, which accounts for 25 per cent of the entire seafarers manning the merchant shipping fleet of the world, are being looked up because of their professionalism and unparalleled commitment towards work.

â€œThere is now high regard for Filipino seamen. And with the strong supervision and support from (your) government, they will continue to demonstrate competence, professionalism and even bravery as risks and hazards are so inherent in their jobs,â€™â€™ Young told the Bulletin. - Manila Bulletin (source)

katong mga seaman sa una kay wa man kono pa toy grado ang uban nga gipanghire ra kono to sa pantalan sa Manila. Ang mga seaman karon kay mga educated na lahi ra daw sa una hadlok kono to sa una. Naa bitaw mi silingan nga unang seaman jud siguro to sa amua. Nabuang hangtud karon wa ulii naa rag drawing drawing ug barko. Dugay pud ni sija sakay sakay ug barko pero ang asawa nangabit mao pag uli nabuang intawon. Hayahay pong buanga kay nagdawat na permi ug pension. Ug makakita ug gwapa unja manguhit sa ijang tapas moingon ug bay asawa nako heheheh.

Akong klasmet nga amigo kaayo sa high school ingon pud ani, nangabit ang asawa. Kahinumdom ko nga late 20s pa mi adtong panahona unya first mate to siya. Dugay ra siyang nakapitan and last I heard happy siya sa iyang second wife with whom he now has teenage children.

Ang mga seaman magsugod jud ni sila sa pinakaubos nga trabaho. Mamintal sa barko, maniltil ug taay,magsawom sawom sa asete nga taga liog. Di pud basta basta ang sakripisyo nga ilang gioffer para haruhay lang ang pamilya nabilin katumbas pud sa ilang ultimate sacrifice. Katong bag o pa akong brother nakasakay malooy ko maghunahuna nga manawag ug mastorya mi moingon nga iya konong kauban gidagat segi ug suka hangtud dugo nay gisuka. Daghan pud ni sila ug i adjust labi na pagkaon kay ug imong crew daw nga tagsa ray pinoy tagsa rapu ka kakaon ug kan on. Everytime mobakasyon ko sa atua unya inig balik diri sa U.S naa jud permi ko kasakay mga seaman.Mailhan jud nimo sila. Last nakong uli nakasakay ko ug lima ka seaman Manila to LAX pareha mi ug eroplano gisakyan unya naghotel mi sa akong mother kay next morning pa ang flight namo naabot mi ug 6 sa gabii ang among next flight 8 oclock the next day stop over sa fort worth dallas. Murag gikumot jud akong kasing kasing nagtan aw sa mga seaman nga ilhan kaayo nga perti nilang kapoya kay wa katug ug tarong unsaon didto raman sila sa airport nagpaabot.Nakaremember ko sa akong mga igsoon,ig agaw ug classmates nila.Ilhan pa jud nga mga new recruit to sila kay mga bata pa plus on standby pa jud pag boarding na. segi jud ko adto nila ug lili kay nalooy ko. Pinoy's are the best in any aspects, when I was a kid I always heard to the elder's if they talking to the seaman's in our neighborhood, because they have so many seaman in our place when I was a kid, the elder's always said that If the House is Big and Rock they always said maybe the owner of this house was a seaman, so when I was a kid every time a saw a Big house the first thing that come to my mind maybe the owner of this house was a seaman, and the thing that always comes to my mind that all of the seaman are rich.

if you scuba dive or love beach you can go to panglao island, there are lots of resort there, you can search it in google for your allowable budget. then balicasag island(this one should not be miss if your underwater adventurer)....

nope, the island is peacefull with less crowd. there are three dive sites that offers diff kinds of coral formations. i luv the sanctuary area, a drop off point, it seem youre flying if you dive along the wall, theres a school of jacks in this area. our last dive last 3 yrs we encounter school of baracuda circling above our heads.....balicasag is my fav dive site, cannot be compared to batangas..

from panglao, it would take about 45 min. to reach balicasag. remember, this island is near the center of bohol/cebu/siquijor islands. strong current can be experienced and located in a deep sea connected all the way to the philippine deep in surigao. lost/narcosis divers were nowhere to be found! good luck and enjoy dudes!

If you want a really really quiet island for diving ... Cabilao is perfect for you. There are at least three dive centers and only about four resorts. Inland is a lake for sunset viewing or bird watching, a unique agriculture and a community of women weavers of handicrafts. Google for the article by National Geographic on the Philippines being one of the world's 25 best new destinations. It mentions only Cabilao among the many dive sites in the country.
