Ranking PRO 7 official denies introducing retired general to suspected drug lord
CEBU CITY, Nov. 10 (PNA) -- A ranking official of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 on Thursday denied he introduced retired police general now Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Vicente Loot to suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa.
Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, PRO 7 deputy director for operations, said this information reportedly came from the affidavit of Kerwin's father, Albuera town mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.
Espinosa was killed inside his cell in a sub-provincial jail in Baybay City on November 5.
Espinosa’s death is now being investigated by the Senate.
Lawas said he never met Espinosa, but some police officials are trying to taint him.
"I would like to say this, I do not know Espinosa or any of the Espinosas. Since birth, I live in Cebu and I never met Espinosa," Lawas said.
Lawas said he is willing to face investigation.
In the affidavit of the slain Espinosa, Loot was among the government officials who allegedly protected Kerwin, who was nabbed in Abu Dhabi last month.
President Rodrigo Duterte in July named Loot and retired police general Marcelo Garbo Jr., among others, as "drug protectors." (PNA)
