President Marcos Jr. visits Cebu for Kadiwa ng Pangulo and BRT project
CEBU CITY – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. made his first visit to Cebu since winning the presidency last year. He was welcomed by Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, Vice-Governor Junjun Davide, and other local officials at the Capitol on Monday morning, Feb. 27.
President Marcos Jr., who was joined by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, graced the launching of Kadiwa ng Pangulo at the Capitol. The program is an initiative of the national government that puts up stalls so farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises can directly sell their products to consumers.
The president also led the ceremonial groundbreaking of the P16.3-billion Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) project at Fuente Osmena circle. The CBRT is the country's first rapid bus transit system that aims to improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion in Metro Cebu.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that it expects to start operations of the CBRT by December 2023². President Marcos Jr. urged the DOTr to finish the project within the target timeline and assured his full support for its completion⁶.
Aside from attending these events, President Marcos Jr. also visited some government-funded projects in Cebu City such as housing units for residents affected by Typhoon Odette¹ and a new hospital building.
President Marcos Jr. thanked Cebuanos for their warm reception and expressed his admiration for their resilience amid challenges brought by natural disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also vowed to continue working with local leaders to bring more development and progress to Cebu province.
