DAVAO CITY, Aug 7 – The Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP) has continued to provide aid to farmers cooperative in Mindanao for the enhancement of their facilities and improve production.
Sherwin Manual, the head of the PRDP Information Unit revealed that one of the cooperatives recent grantee is the Subasta Integrated Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Barangay Subasta, Calinan this city. The cooperative was granted PHP9.5 million fund for the development of its PHP34-million Marketing of Dry Fermented Cacao Beans. The rest of the fund requirement was covered by the cooperative for the land, facility and other structures. Manual said the fund will be used to enhance their production capacity since they need to purchase trucks and consolidator facility for the hauling of the products of nine cluster member cooperatives of Calinan, Malagos, Marilog and Paquibato. PRDP also granted fund assistance to the Farmers Cooperative Marketing Association of Zamboanga del Norte for Cacao Production and Marketing which has a project cost of PHP13.4 million. Manual said the Lanao del Norte Integrated Coconut Base Enterprise got an assistance of PHP8.8 million for its project with a cost of PHP13.4 million. The local government unit of Lanao also gave its counterpart funds to help the farmers. On the other hand, Manual said there is still PHP212 million which can be accessed up to 2018 under the PRDP’s Enterprise Program. He said the objectives of this program is to increase smallholder groups operating viable enterprises; to enhance producer productivity through formalized arrangements for marketing and technical services; and to increase smallholder and fishery resilience to climate change and adverse weather condition.
