POPCOM-Cagayan Valley holds population management caravan in Batanes
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 12 (PNA) -- The Commission on Population's (POPCOM) office in the Cagayan Valley region conducted a 10-day Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP) Caravan in Batanes province.
POPCOM deputy executive director Rosalinda Marcelino said that given its geographical location, Batanes is left behind in terms of access to basic population management programs and services.
She said that through the Caravan, the people of Batanes will be able to understand and appreciate the goals of the government’s Population Management Program.
In support of POPCOM’s advocacies on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP), Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD), Population and Development (POPDEV), and Gender and Development (GAD), two major issues prevailing in the province were identified during the orientation -- teenage pregnancy and the out-migration of the working and school age population.
To highlight the program's RPFP component, the Organizational Meeting of the Provincial Implementation Team (PIT) for the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) Law was held to discuss the law's provisions and the roles of the PIT members in implementing the law. (PNA)
