Pinoys living abroad - What can you say about Racism?
« on: August 25, 2007, 12:48:19 PM »

This problem is still centered in the Country where I am now. Newly, we have 5 business men from India who are living in the former Eastern part were
seriously injured and were victims of this so-called race discrimination. I wish and hope that nobody will not encounter this type of unhuman greetings.

As a Filipino-American, I have encountered times where I was treated differently based on my physical and phenotypic appearance---particularly in areas that have little to no minority groups. I wasn't physically maltreated, but the tone of their voice was rather conspicuous--and their actions were subtle. Generally tho, most Americans are very accepting and it rarely is it that you meet an outspoken racist.

I try my best to rise above the situation by leading through example and through good works--as in treating them with respect instead of negativities. Natural man jud good na--kanang tao--if he or she hasn't seen a personal ethnic group before--ma prejudiced man jud na siya initially. After some time--ma change man sila--pero sometimes they dont--depends on the individual. Bambi, when I was in Ukraine last year--I did notice that there are a rising number of 'neo nazis' in eastern europe. Hope that your Indian co-workers are alright. Stay safe, k? :)

Ma sakit na lang atong dughan if we think about it too much. Ang ginoo--he will always provide and support--no matter what. Dili lang ta maka kaibao mo tabang man jud na siya--small or big.

so far, in almost three years here in belgium, i find the belgians very nice. they always greet you with a smile. but months ago when we were looking for an apartment, the signing of the contract didn't push through when the owner knew na dili ko belgian. my husband offered to pay the full six month-rent, pro wala jud sya nisugot.

da! gigabaan lagi nako!hangtud karon for rent pa gihapon ang apartment.merisi!

Hello Sana and Sano!

thanks for the interesting echoes and the related experiencd  to the topic cited.

well, keep on fighting not by way of physical maltreatment against the racist but like pare Onic above-stated options:

Pinoys/Pinays dili sab malupigan in terms of educational backgrounds.....keep on fighting in this connection!

to overcome racism in a light but effective manner in day-to-day encounter is to display our best and lead by example our positive values that would make the rest think... we must rise above all these.. and must prove that we don't deserve to be maltreated regardless its their homeplace... as the world getting a global village, there is no more boundaries...

it's normal to have people staring at you, pasagdan lang na. pero kung hilabtan naka, di na maayo. you should respond to them in a nice manner. show them that you deserve respect and of course always wear a smile. :)

Tinuud bitaw, pare. Ayaw lang ta ma sukul nila kai kita man i-target-on sa ilahang posse--my only advice to anyone suffering from this is to just ignore them and worry about your own business--kai dili man jud mo tulug ang ginoo--kaibao man jud na siya what everyone is doing to you or what you do to others. Dili na ta maka respond now--pero when it is time to be called home--each of us will be judged accordingly.

God bless everyone who was unjustly targeted---luuy lang pood ta kai hard working man jud na ang Filipino (especially boholanon)--we work had so we can rise over our oppressors and give a better future for our children. Thats all that counts. Bahala lan na sila--kai jealous man ang racists sa nato--kai we Filipinos are always successful wherever we go!! Ang gift na sa ginoo oi!

AMEN!!!
