More than 3000 Filipinos bathed in soda over the weekend.
And it wasn’t just a crazy stunt as the Philippines now holds the Guinness World Record for the "Most Mentos and Soda Fountains," simultaneously setting off 2,856 soda fountains and topping previous record holder Mexico, which popped 2,433 Mentos geysers back in August 2010.
Perfetti Van Melle (PVM), maker of Mentos and other sugary treats, was at the forefront of the event, and even flew in the world renowned EepyBird tandem and Guinness World Record adjudicator, Seyda Subasi-Gemici, from Maine and Turkey, respectively.
Sunday, October 17, became "a day of fun and solidarity not just for the whole family but for the whole barkada [peer groups]" at the SM Mall of Asia concert ground, Ryan Palad, PVM senior brand manager said, adding that the candy company aimed "to reignite the fire of bayanihan spirit."
PVM country manager Tommy del Mar dubbed the event as "the coolest gathering of Filipinos," with participants lining up in thousands to be showered by the fizzy drink.
Students from the Rizal Technical University, University of the Philippines, Adamson University, Jose Rizal University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and representatives from various companies and some groups of friends looking for a fun way to spend their Sunday evening joined the world class event.
The participants watched with excitement on the sidelines as the famous partners of EepyBird demonstrated one of their Mentos geyser experiments which showcased their ability to put on a performance of swinging, swirling geysers spewing soda in time to upbeat music.
