A brave agent of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group engaged three heavily-armed motorcycle-riding robbers in a gunfight in Biñan, Laguna , killing two of the suspects yesterday.
Police Officer 3 Eduardo Ompacan, an intelligence agent of the Regional Highway Patrol Group 4-A, was on the lookout for highway robbers near the Southwoods Exit in Biñan when he saw the suspects robbing an Indian trader, said PNP-HPG director Chief Supt. Orlando M. Mabutas.
He said the suspects immediately opened fire at the HPG operative when they saw him and he retaliated, hitting one of the robbers who are believed to be members of the notorious “Hapon Carnapping and Robbery-Holdup Gang.†The suspects are known for using motorcycles without license plates as their getaway vehicles.
Witnesses said the other two suspects tried to drag away their wounded cohort while firing at Ompacan but one of them was eventually shot by the HPG cop.
Seeing his two cohorts mortally wounded, the other suspect fled on a motorcycle and is still being hunted by HPG 4-A operatives under Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao as of press time yesterday. A .38 caliber revolver and a pistol were recovered from the unidentified slain suspects.
“I am congratulating PO3 Ompacan for his bravery in line of duty. He is worthy of emulation of all other officers and men of the unit,†said the head of the HPG which is celebrating its 54th anniversary tomorrow. - source:
