Piñol: Corruption in agri dept must stopDUMAGUETE CITY - Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that corruption in his department should stop.
During his visit here Tuesday, Piñol urged the people to report any case of corruption, big or small, to their respective localities so it could be acted upon quickly.
Detailing his plans for farmers, the official said that by next year, farmers across the country will be able to enjoy free irrigation.
He said he is also asking President Rodrigo R. Duterte for a budget of PHP63 billion over the next three years for the distribution of hybrid seedlings and fertilizers to farmers.
The agriculture secretary further announced to farmers in Negros Oriental that the President wants all farmers to be insured with the Philippine Insurance Corp. before his term ends.
If government employees have GSIS, private employees have SSS, farmers and fisherfolk have “tiis-tiis†(suffering), that is why President Duterte would like to extend to them a pension fund to cover their life and accident insurance, he said.
Piñol said he wants to meet with Negros Oriental's governor, mayors, agriculturists, farmers and fishermen in the near future to get their inputs on certain issues. (PNA)
