Philippine President Thanks UAE President for Pardoning 3 Filipinos

Manila, Philippines - President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has thanked United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for pardoning three convicted Filipinos, two of whom were on death row.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Marcos said he was "deeply grateful" to Al Nahyan for the "generous gesture" of pardoning the Filipinos.

"The pardon of these three Filipinos is a testament to the strong and warm relations between our two countries," Marcos said. "I would like to thank President Al Nahyan for his kindness and compassion."

The three Filipinos who were pardoned are:

Joselito Jose, who was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to death by hanging.

Rodrigo Fernandez, who was convicted of murder and sentenced to death by firing squad.

Maria Teresa Lacson, who was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to life in prison.

The pardons were granted on June 22, 2023. The three Filipinos are expected to be released from prison in the coming days.

Marcos's statement comes just days after he visited the UAE and met with Al Nahyan. During the visit, the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the Philippines and the UAE.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
