Philippine Holiday: Nov. 16 Declared National Holiday
« on: November 11, 2010, 03:19:51 PM »
President Benigno S. Aquino III has declared Tuesday, November 16, 2010 as a national holiday in celebration of Eid'l Adha or Feast of Sacrifice.

President Aquino signed Proclamation No. 60 dated November 09, 2010 declaring November 16 as a national holiday in celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice or Eid'l Adha, one of the two greatest feast of Islam.

In issuing the Proclamation, President Aquino said that RA 9849 provides that Eid'l Adha shall be celebrated as a national holiday.

The President also took into cognizance the fact that the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has confirmed that the feast of Eid'l Adha falls on November 16, 2010.

The Eid'l Adha or "Greater Eid" is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma'il) as an act of obedience to God, but instead was able to sacrifice a ram (by God's command). - PIA
