Filipino boxing hero Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao today paid a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo upon his arrival at the country fresh from an impressive victory against Oscar de la Hoya in Las Vegas, USA.
After attending a thanksgiving mass at the Quiapo Church, Pacquiao met the President at the Music Room in Malacanang where they had a brief conversation.
Accompanied by his entourage which include Environment Secretary Lito Atienza, Deputy National Security Adviser Luis “Chavit" Singson and Bacolod City Rep. Monico Puentevella, the boxing champ recounted to the President his match with de la Hoya.
He thanked the President as well as the nation for their prayers.
After their conversation, the President presented the traditional cake prepared by the Palace chefs.
The cake was designed in such a way to make it look like a red boxing glove adorned with a World Boxing Council (WBC) championship belt.
Queried about his reported political plans, Pacquiao declined to provide any details to mediamen.
"I don't want to discuss politics right now. I'm focused on my boxing career," he told reporters . - PNA
