LOOK: Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Deputy Commandant for Administration, CG Vice Admiral Oscar C Endona Jr warmly welcomed CRIMARIO Project Director Martin Cauchi Inglott at the National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila.
During the visit, the officials discussed the objectives of CRIMARIO's mission in the Indo-Pacific Region, the status of the Indo-Pacific Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) platform in terms of regional membership, as well as plans on future governance and technical improvements of the system. They also tackled the ongoing IORIS training of CRIMARIO for selected PCG personnel.
Also present during the meeting were Alexandru Chiric, the Maritime Security Advisor and IORIS Trainer; Bjorn Beirens, IORIS Trainer; CG Captain Dennis Rem C Labay, Outgoing Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Maritime Communications, Weapons, Electronics and Information System, CG-11; and CG Captain Roy I Sumayao, Incoming CG-11.
According to its website, the EU Critical Maritime Route Wider Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO) project was launched in 2015 to improve maritime security and safety in the Wider Indian Ocean.
CRIMARIO aims to support countries in the region to enhance their Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) through the sharing and fusion of data from various sources to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the maritime domain and to promote its security and safety.
The project also seeks to promote cooperation, coordination, and interoperability of different information-sharing centers based across the region through the organization of joint events, training, and capacity-building exercises.
