PANABO MANGROVE PARK ECOTOURISM PROJECT INAUGURATED

Panabo City, Davao del Norte - An Inauguration and Turn-Over ceremony of the Panabo Mangrove Park Ecotourism Project located at Brgy. JP Laurel was held today, June 26,2019.
 
Vice Mayor Janrey Gavina and Councilor Gregorio Dujali III led the ribbon-cutting ceremony, together with Councilor Flopone Royle Catalan, Executive Secretary Engr. Judith Lee, CENRO Head Engr. Felix Jonases Senajon, JP Laurel Brgy. Captain Richard Ocay, department heads and guests.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, a blessing was officiated by Rev. Fr. Florendo Cimafranca.

"This is the sixth phase of the Ecotourism Project which is now composed of a 430-meter boardwalk over the mangrove sanctuary and a docking cottage. The facility can now accommodate potential economic and ecotourism activities like mangrove tours and boat / kayak rentals that will benefit the locals as livelihood," said CENRO Engr. Senajon in an interview.
 
Senajon added that a Provincial Government-funded multi-purpose building in the mangrove park is currently under construction, while future projects like electrical and lighting facilities, souvenir and reception center, view deck tower and zip line, aviary, convention hall, canteen and fishing station are being considered to be integrated in the ecotourism plan.

In his message, Mayor James Gamao, represented by Vice Mayor Gavina thanked the department heads and the 7th City Council for their support in the Gamao - Gavina administration that led to the implementation of many projects in the city.

Panabo Mangrove Park Ecotourism Project sits in a 73-hectare salvage zone mangrove sanctuary. The project aims to showcase the mangrove forest and  promote ecotourism activities in the area, intensify the mangrove protection and preservation program of the LGU, establish Environmental Educational Research Facility, increase the level of environmental awareness and participation of the community, and generate livelihood and employment opportunities.
