MANILA, Philippines--The state weather bureau said on Monday that the low pressure area it detected on Sunday moved closer to eastern Mindanao, bringing more rains to the region.
The low pressure area, a rain-inducing weather system, was spotted at 695 kilometers east of Mindanao, embedded along the intertropical convergence zone, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its website.
The low pressure area has yet to develop into a typhoon but weather forecasters have said that it could turn into a tropical cyclone.
The rains in Luzon have been brought by the tail-end of a cold front, Pagasa added.
The weather bulletin was valid from 5 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Pagasa forecasts that “Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies wth scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms, while Mindanao and Western Visayas will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.â€
“The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,†Pagasa said.
