DSWD urges public not to harass SAP personnel
« on: April 25, 2020, 10:53:04 PM »
MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday appealed to the public not to harass the government personnel who identify and verify beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

DSWD Undersecretary Rene Glen Paje made this call after receiving reports that the government front-liners, particularly DSWD personnel, have been receiving threats while distributing the government cash assistance to the poor families affected by the enhanced community quarantine to contain the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak.

“Nakikiusap po ang DSWD na huwag magalit kundi ay bigyan ng tiwala at pag-unawa ang ating front-liners na ang nais lamang ay maipahatid ang mga benepisyo ng SAP sa mga nangangailangan (DSWD is appealing you not to be angry but instead give our front-liners understanding and trust. They only want to distribute the SAP benefits to the needy),” Paje said.

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco earlier said barangay officials and government staff are at risk of getting the ire of those who will not be included in the list of SAP beneficiaries.

Paje said the DSWD has already coordinated with Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to provide security to the field workers.

He said low-income families who will not be chosen by the field workers can apply as SAP beneficiaries by submitting their applications to the Local Social Welfare Development Offices for verification.

He added that barangay tanods and health workers are now eligible to receive the emergency subsidy.

“Hindi naman po ibig sabihin ay sila nang lahat. Syempre subject pa rin po sila to (It does not mean all barangay tanods and health workers will be given. They still have to undergo the same process of verification as others),” Paje clarified.

Based on the DSWD online data, a total of PHP76.8 billion has already been downloaded to the local government units (LGUs) for distribution as of April 22. Of this amount, PHP25.2 billion has already been given to the qualified beneficiaries.

The government has allotted PHP200 billion for the two-time cash subsidy ranging from PHP5,000 to PHP8,000 per recipient for around 18 million low-income households. (PNA)
