BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan -- The organizer of the annual Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival is now gearing up for next year’s celebration.
Ati-Atihan, an annual festival that attracts thousands of local and international tourists, is a week-long celebration every second week of January.
The more than 800-year-old festival, dubbed as the "Mother of All Philippine Festivals” is organized yearly by the Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (KASAFI).
Albert Meñez, KASAFI chairman, said Wednesday that preparations for the festival are already underway.
He said Kalibo Ati-Atihan 2018 will officially open on October 20.
Following the opening salvo, a series of events will also be scheduled for the celebration in January.
Meñez said the selection for Mutya it Kalibo Ati-atihan 2018, which is one of the highlights of the festival, is still open.
Next year’s festival will also highlight the search for Mr. Ati-Atihan Festival King.
Aside from the capital town of Kalibo, other towns in Aklan also have their own version of Ati-Atihan, including Boracay. (PNA)
