On Saturday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally distributed government aid to families and fisherfolk affected by the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro. Alongside the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), President Marcos has distributed Php98.6 million worth of family food packs to those affected.
Various forms of government assistance were distributed, including fishing boats, fish smoking machines, water pumps, and vegetable and certified palay seeds. The DSWD reported that it has distributed 140,728 family food packs out of the 187,140 delivered to the province.
The DSWD is also implementing a cash-for-work program in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for clean-up operations. More than 25,000 families in 14 towns are engaged in the program with a total budget allocation of Php190.1 million.
Activities include oil spill clean-up along coastlines under DENR guidance, land clearing for communal gardens, establishment of barangay and background gardening, hauling and handling family food packs, and canal clean-up and desilting for flood prevention.
