Press Release: OFW REMITTANCES MULA KUWAIT INAASAHANG LALAKI

Dalawang Assistant Majority Leaders at isang Committee Vice Chair ng Kamara ang naglabas na kani-kaniyang pahayag ukol sa tuluyang pag-alis ng OFW deployment ban papuntang Kuwait at sa estado ng OFW remittances. 

Ayon kay Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy, $32 million ang ibinaba ng OFW cash remittance galing Kuwait mula buwan ng Enero, Pebrero, at Marso batay sa mga detalyadong datos ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, pero sigurado aniyang makakabawi na ang OFW sector matapos ipag-utos ni Pangulong Duterte na alisin ang total ban. 

“Tataas ang remittances mula Kuwait dahil sa pag-alis ng ban. Dadami rin ang mga remittance sa mga buwan ng Abril, Mayo, at Hunyo para sa gastusin sa graduation at enrollment ng mga pinag-aaral ng mga OFW,” aniya. 

Ipinunto ng Bagong Henerasyon Party-list congresswoman na ang $32 million na ibinaba ng remittances mula Kuwait ay maliit na bahagi lamang ng naiulat na halos 10 percent na pagbagsak ng OFW padala mula sa iba’t ibang bansa sa mundo.

“Maliit ang $32 million cash remittances na iyan kumpara sa $288 million na kabuuang ibinaba ng total personal remittances mula sa lahat ng bansa, hindi lamang mula Kuwait.  Kapag ikinumpara pa iyang $32 million sa $7 billion total cash remittances, 1/218 ang fraction niyan,” ayon kay Herrera-Dy. 

Sa tantiya naman ni Assistant Majority Leader Ron Salo ng KABAYAN Party-list na posibleng umabot sa $600 million hanggang $800 million ang total OFW cash remittances mula Kuwait para sa buong taon ng 2018 dahil “tataas ang mga datos mula Hunyo hanggang Disyembre.” 

“Dadagsa sa Kuwait ang mga hindi agad nakaalis dahil sa ban. Mahaba na ngayon ang enrollment season sa mga paaralan dahil ang iba ay sa Agosto pa magsisimula ang mga klase. Sa Nobyembre at Disyembre naman, pamasko ang sanhi ng pagtaas ng remittances,” ani Salo.

Para naman kay Leyte 2ND District Rep. Henry Ong, Vice Chair ng House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries, marapat na kumilos ang Bangko Sentral, mga bangko, at remittance companies upang makamit ng Pilipinas ang United Nations target na 3 percent lamang na remittance cost o iyong halagang ibinabawas sa perang padala. 

“Ang mga aspetong dapat tutukan para mapababa ang remittance fee na ibinabawas sa padala ay transparency, speed of transfer, margins on the exchange rates, systems security, at ang availability of remittance outlets near the residences of OFW dependents,” dagdag ni Ong.  (WAKAS)
