OFFICIAL STATEMENT

PHILAAK ACCEPTS OFW DEPLOYMENT BAN TO KUWAIT, EXTENDING AID TO FAMILY OF JOANNA DANIELA DIMAPILIS

First, we thank President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for taking up the cudgels for our OFWs in Kuwait. Only he as President can spur the government of Kuwait to take clear and decisive action to put in place and implement measures to protect the human rights of our OFWs. Only President Duterte can convince the leaders of Kuwait to make sure that justice will be served to our OFWs who died there.

PHILAAK reiterates its support for the ban on new deployment of OFWs to Kuwait and the voluntary repatriation of distressed OFWs from that country.

We accept the ban and understand that it is a necessary step for the welfare of many OFWs and convince the Kuwait Government of the resolve of the Philippines to protect its citizens.

We also appreciate the concern for our OFWs from our legislators, especially ACTS-OFW Party-list Representative John Bertiz and KABAYAN Party-List Representatives Ron Salo and Ciriaco Calalang, Senator Cynthia Villar, Senator Joel Villanueva, Senator Juan Edgardo Angara, and Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito.

In these trying times for our industry, the compassion and support of President Duterte and of Congress motivate us to stay the course because our OFWs and their families deserve a good life and a comfortable future.

For the family of Joanna Daniela Dimapilis, 29 years old from the town of Sara in Iloilo, whose remains were found in a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait, PHILAAK is extending financial support, start-up capital for a small business, educational assistance for her minor dependents, and medical assistance for her family members who may need medical attention.

We also want the public to know the larger picture that many OFWs in Kuwait and around the world are not in distress situations and have good and responsible employers.

We also want the public to be aware that there are many skilled and professional OFWs working in Kuwait and waiting to be deployed to Kuwait.

We also ask government to bring together under one department all the government agencies that are concerned about the OFWs and migrant workers. Right now, there are many government agencies and they are scattered in different departments. POEA, OWWA, Commission on Overseas Filipinos, the Task Forces on Human Trafficking and Illegal Recruitment, etcetera. It is very difficult for OFWs and recruitment agencies because they are not all in one agency for better coordination and much less inconvenience and hardships.

We also seek better law enforcement measures against human trafficking, including much better monitoring of airports and seaports.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
