SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ, Nueva Ecija -- Some 200 buffalo and dairy stakeholders, including ranking foreign officials, gathered at the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) National Headquarters and Gene Pool here Thursday for an exchange of best practices and technologies.
The event is being held to establish sustainability in the dairy industry in line with the Duterte Administration's nutrition program, Dr. Arnel del Barrio, PCC executive director and conference convenor, said during the opening of the two-day International Conference on Carabao-Based Enterprise Development (CBED).
"Nung mga nagdaang taon, naka-concentrate tayo sa dairy production. Ngayon kailangan nating tingnan ang quality at market (In the past years, we concentrated on dairy production. Now, we need to look into the quality and market)," del Barrio said.
He said the international conference aims to bring together various stakeholders on CBED to exchange scientific and technological knowledge and best practices on buffalo-based enterprise development.
This development has two perspectives -- institutional or government and private.
It also features discussions on policies, support facilities and logistics that are vital to the development of buffalo-based dairy enterprise, as well as exploration of mutually beneficial partnerships, collaboration in relevant research, and development initiatives.
Scientists and dairy officials from India, Thailand and Laos shared their expertise and experience with producers, entrepreneurs, cooperatives and farmers from various parts of the country during Thursday’s conference. (PNA)
