Philippine Army Ensures Humane Burial for Fallen Communist Leader, Calls for Surrender and Peace
The 46th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army ensured a proper burial for Artemio Solayao, alias Budil, a leader of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Catbalogan City, Samar, on December 16, 2024.
Solayao had been abandoned by his comrades after being killed in a clash on December 13, 2024. The Samar Provincial Task Force—Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) helped in arranging the burial.
Solayao’s brother expressed gratitude for the humane treatment, despite his sibling's involvement in the armed struggle, and urged other CTG members to surrender for a better life. Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy condemned the violence of the CTGs and called for unity and peace.
Lieutenant Colonel Rommel De Mesa of the 46th Infantry Battalion reiterated the government's commitment to human rights, even for enemies. Major General Adonis Ariel Orio urged remaining CTG members to surrender and join the government’s National Amnesty Program for a peaceful future.
