Notorious “Alcala Group” drug suspect killed in shootout with Quezon operatives

CAMP GEN. NAKAR, Lucena City, Jan. 10 (PNA) –- A notorious drug suspect was killed in an armed encounter with joint operatives of Quezon Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (PAIDSOTG) and the Lucena City PNP on Tuesday morning in Purok Bagong Sinag, Barangay Cotta in this city.

Police Senior Superintendent Rhoderick C. Armamento, acting Provincial Director of Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) identified the suspect as Jerry Vergara Causapin alias “Pugto”, 45 and Bagong Sinag resident.

Based on the report, the joint teams in coordination with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted the drug buy-bust operation at Purok Bagong Sinag in Cotta Village.

Police said that during their operation, the suspect fired at them, prompting the team to return fire and killed the armed suspect on the spot.

They recovered from the suspect two pieces of ₱hp 500 bill as marked money; 12 heat-sealed plastics containing shabu weighing 21 grams valued at ₱hp 38,150.

The operatives also retrieved the suspect’s caliber .45 pistol with magazine loaded with three live ammunitions and a fired cartridge case of caliber 45.

Senior Supt. Armamento also disclosed that the suspect Causapin was a member of the “Alcala Group” engaged in illegal drugs trade in Lucena City and nearby towns.

Police record also revealed the suspect has pending case for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs law (Republic Act 9165 Section 5) on the sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution and transportation of dangerous drugs at RTC Branch 55, Fourth Judicial Region in Lucena City.
