No indiscriminate firing, stray bullets on New Year’s Eve celebration

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 3 (PNA) –- The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental on Tuesday said it did not receive any reports of indiscriminate firing or victims of stray bullets during the New Year’s Eve celebration and onwards.

Acting PNP provincial director Sr. Supt. Henry Biñas, however, said there were reported victims of firecrackers although his office is still collating data from reports of police stations in the province that are still coming in.

According to Sr. Supt. Biñas, police chiefs were directed to warn their personnel against indiscriminate firing in line with the order of the PNP Chief, Director General Ronald dela Rosa that those found guilty of the offense will be immediately dismissed from the service.

Also, the PNP in the province scrapped the usual muzzle-taping of firearms as ordered by the Chief PNP, he added.

As to the fire incident in Bayawan City in southern Negros Oriental where the burnt cadaver of a woman was found inside a store, Sr. Supt. Biñas said it has yet to be determined if the fire was ignited by a firecracker.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is still investigating the incident, he added.

A police report said that around 3:20 a.m. of January 1st, Bayawan BFP personnel recovered the body of Arlene Pinanonang, 48, married, inside the store that she owned in Barangay Boyco, Bayawan City.

Initial investigation showed that at around 12:54 a.m. of the same day, or at the height of the New Year celebration, fire, which reportedly originated from a hanging tarpaulin at the adjacent store broke out and had spread to Arlene’s store.

Meanwhile, in Dumaguete City, the police reported that at least two people sustained injuries due to firecrackers on New Year’s Eve.

They were identified as Jahn Dayuno, 21, single, of Barangay Daro and Venus Vaga Jesim, 36, single, of Barangay Bagacay. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
