BALANGA CITY, Bataan -- Passenger jeepneys in this province on Tuesday are back on the roads after joining the transport strike Monday in opposition to the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program of government.
Drivers of jeepneys in the first district of Bataan resumed their regular trips but it was noticeable that the vehicles were mostly with less number of passengers.
Jeepneys left the terminal without being filled with passengers.
“The low number of passengers is due to the suspension of classes and work in government," a passenger said.
Malacanang suspended classes and work in government offices nationwide Monday and Tuesday.
Jeepneys with routes from Balanga to Abucay and Balanga to Orani and vice-versa are back in their slots in the Bataan Transport Terminal in Balanga City.
These two slots were empty Monday after drivers and operators of four jeepney associations in the first district joined the nationwide “tigil pasada.”
Passenger jeepneys in the second district with routes from Balanga City to the towns of Pilar, Orion and Limay did not join the transport strike. (PNA)
