The
family planning strategy of the Department of Health (DoH) has undergone a rebirth and will take advantage of the prevailing technology to reach their targets that include girls as young as 15-year-old who need
information on pregnancy, birth spacing and achieving the desired family size.
A popular foreign song on ‘waiting’ before giving in to sex is one of the tools that are now being studied by a private organization helping the DoH to formulate the new materials for the revised program.
In an interview during the program’s launch in Sta. Cruz, Manila yesterday, Nilo Yacat, media and communication adviser of Healthpro, said they will make a video similar to the ones that we see in videoke bars but they will use
family planning messages as background in the selected songs.
He said the videos will tackle issues on sex and
family planning that will effectively capture the interest of the DoH targets that also include the “spacers†or the couples who want to achieve birth spacing, and the “limiters†or the couples who want to limit the number of their children.
Apart from the music videos, Yacat mentioned other ‘non-traditional materials’ that will be included in a health event caravan called “Lakbay, Buhay, Kalusugan.â€
