DAGUPAN CITY -- Three high value targets (HVTs) for illegal drugs were arrested Monday in Barangay Lucao here.
The suspects were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted around 2 p.m. by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents with the help of the Dagupan City Police.
A report of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) on Tuesday stated that this was the first operation of PDEA against illegal drugs since after President Rodrigo Duterte pulled out the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the fight against drugs.
Arrested were James Madison Manaoat, Maja Demah Bajunaid and Jone Alexan Villamor, who were allegedly supplying illegal drugs to students, especially foreigners, in various colleges and universities in Dagupan. Maja is reportedly half-Filipino.
Confiscated from them were one wrapped elongated bundle of dried marijuana leaves and stalks estimated at 750 grams with a street value of PHP90,000 and 33 sealed transparent sachets containing dried marijuana leaves weighing 280.5 grams worth PHP33,660.
Also found from the suspects were one genuine PHP1,000 bill placed on top of 13 pieces of boodle money paid to the three by the poseur buyer, one black Mitsubishi Mirage car with Plate No. ABO-3148, one blue travel bag and one brown-white coin pouch.
The suspects said they sourced out the dried marijuana leaves from Baguio City. In fact, they just came from Baguio when they transacted business with an agent of PDEA who acted as poseur buyer.
The PDEA said the three had long been placed under surveillance due to reports they are peddling marijuana to students in various universities and colleges in Dagupan.
The suspects are now facing cases of violation of Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 (the anti-drugs law as amended). (PNA)
