BACOLOD CITY -- Using a loan from the Municipal Development Fund Office (MDFO) of the Department of Finance (DOF), the Province of Negros Occidental has allocated about PHP1.27 billion in grants for 40 projects of various local government units.
A total of 33, majority of which are infrastructures, have been identified for roughly PHP913 million in allocation under the General Fund Supplement Budget No. 4 approved by the Provincial Board as of Wednesday.
These include farm-to-market roads for PHP549 million; purchase of heavy equipment - PHP128.4 million; port development in Sagay City - PHP86 million; construction of public market in Hinoba-an - PHP60 million; construction of San Enrique Public Market - PHP60 million; and Kabankalan Airport runway development - PHP30 million.
Also, seven LGUs were earmarked a total of PHP358 million, but they have yet to comply with the requirements.
Projects include construction of Bago City Public Market amounting to PHP88 million; La Castellana Public Market - PHP60 million; Isabela bridge construction - PHP60 million; Candoni Public Market - PHP50 million; Calatrava hospital development - PHP40 million; Toboso Government Center development - PHP30 million; and San Carlos City road concreting - PHP30 million.
Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., chairman of committee on appropriation, budget and finance, said the provincial government signed a PHP1.4-billion loan agreement with the MDFO.
The rest of the fund has been allotted for the PHP85-million information and communication technology sector development and PHP50-million multi-purpose building construction of the provincial government.
Escalante said the provincial government will pay the loan to the MDFO.
“The projects are given as grant to the recipient cities and municipalities,” the board member said, adding that the construction of the projects will start next year.
Escalante said the Provincial Board will approve another supplemental budget for the PHP493 million grant, including the PHP358 million for the seven projects and PHP135 million of the two Capitol projects, once the concerned LGUs comply with the requirements.(PNA)
