Filipino netizens once again questioned the absence of President Rodrigo Duterte from the media by making the hashtag #NasaanAngPangulo a trending topic on Twitter.
Netizens speculated about Duterte being dead after he canceled his weekly national address twice this week.
His last public appearance was on March 29 when he welcomed the delivery of one million doses of CoronaVac vaccines.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the President postponed his public address “in light of the rising number of active COVID-19 cases.”
“The physical safety of the President remains our utmost concern,” Roque stated.
“In addition, the preparation for the Talk to the People Address entails [staff complement] and we also take due consideration of their well-being,” he went on.
Moreover, Duterte’s close ally, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, disclosed that the regular public address was postponed after 45 members of the Presidential Security Group tested for the coronavirus.
Go said that “there is nothing to worry about” as Duterte was in “good health.”
