KAWIT, Cavite - An art exhibit on the life and works of General Emilio Aguinaldo as a Revolutionist, President of the Republic and a Freemason will have its rerun from Oct 14-28 at the Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo (MEA) in observance of the Museums and Galleries Month this October.
The MEA, in partnership with the Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines, will be mounting anew the museum featured exhibit dubbed “1895-1899: General Aguinaldo."
The Masons co-organized the exhibit "to commemorate the centennial year of the lodge General Aguinaldo, which was founded in 1914 in this town," said MEA curator Paulette M. Bedruz.
Bedruz disclosed that the MEA exhibit would feature the initiation of General Aguinaldo as a Mason in Logia Pilar No. 203 of Imus City at the height of the Spanish colonial government's persecution of Masons in the country in the year 1895.
The exhibit will also feature the evolution of Philippine Masonry from the Spanish era to the present, as well as the advocacy of Filipino-Mason patriots who initiated a campaign for colonial reforms that eventually led to the formation of the Katipunan.
Likewise, other Cavite museums also line up various activities this "Museums and Galleries Month" to showcase history "more than just by the books" but to personally experience why Cavite is known for as the "History Capital" of the Philippines.
The month-long observance is pursuant to Proclamation No. 798 series of 1991 signed by then President Corazon Aquino, which declared October of every year as “Museums and Galleries Month.”
The Presidential proclamation aims to foster the preservation, enrichment, and dynamic evolution of a Filipino national culture based on the principle of unity in diversity in a climate of free artistic and intellectual expression.
Other than the frequently visited Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo (MEA) here where the revolutionary and First Philippine President lived and declared the Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, Kawit is also home to Baldomero Aguinaldo Museum named in Baldomero’s honor as lawyer, stalwart supporter, leader of the Magdalo Faction and the first cousin of General Emilio Aguinaldo.
There is also the Tejeros Convention in Rosario, Cavite which strikes a discordant note in history as the infamous convention of two rival factions – Magdiwang and Magdalo – which held a meeting to supposedly bond as one as they forward Cavite’s defense against the Spaniards.
But, the event ended up with the election of General Emilio Aguinaldo as the First Republican President and left Andres Bonifacio with frustrations in his struggles through his “Katipunan” movement.
The “Museo ng Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio” (Bonifacio Trial House) in Maragondon, Cavite traces back the events leading to Bonifacio’s arrest and execution.
The museum is also where Bonifacio’s various “tula” or poems and love for wife Gregoria De Jesus were put on display.
There is also the Don Ladislao Diwa Shrine, the resting place of one of the founders of the Revolutionary Faction KKK in Silang town and other privately-owned and managed museums like the GBR Museum in the City of General Trias, Museo Dela Salle in De La Salle University – Dasmariñas City, and Museo Orlina in Tagaytay City.
