COTABATO CITY -- The issue of government forces setting foot on the grand mosque recovered by government forces from terrorists in Marawi City is not an issue for Muslim religious leaders.
Sheik Abu Huraira Udasan, the grand mufti of the central Mindanao Darul Iftah (House of Opinions), said the visit of President Duterte and government forces in the recaptured Grand Mosque was “excusable” given the situation.
He said the netizens should not make it an issue because Islam understands the situation and there was no desecration of the House of Allah.
The Muslim religious leader who is equivalent to a cardinal for Catholic faithful said the President has repeatedly said that the place of worship must not be destroyed. His visit there was to assess the situation of the Mosque and not to desecrate it, he added.(PNA)
