BACOLOD CITY -- The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 on Monday held the official send off of 4,365 policemen, soldiers, and volunteers who will secure the 38th MassKara Festival on its final week.
The festival highlights is set from October 19 to 22, with President Rodrigo Duterte as the guest of honor during the final day on Sunday at the Bacolod public plaza, where the much-awaited barangay street and arena dance competition will be held.
Chief Superintendent Cesar Binag, director of PRO 6, with Mayor Evelio Leonardia led the send-off rites held at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.
Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Secretary-General for Luzon Martin Diño was also present during the program.
Of the 4,365 security forces, both the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines deployed a total of 1,481 personnel.
The remaining 2,884 are volunteers from various anti-crime groups in Bacolod.
Leonardia ordered Superintendent Rhoderick Minong, officer-in-charge of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), to ensure peace and order during the MassKara Festival with a large crowd expected especially during the highlights.
The mayor also ordered the police that he wants MassKara to be the safest and most orderly festival in country.
The BCPO conducted simulation exercises at the plaza twice, the second was held on October 13.
Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of BCPO, said the drill at the public plaza, which is part of the contingency plan, involved a response to a possible bomb threat.
A simulation exercise was also held last Friday at the Bacolod City Government Center, one of the three festival sites aside from the plaza and the Lacson Tourism Strip. (PNA)
