The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has recorded the coldest temperature in Metro Manila for this season on Thursday morning.
PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said an 18.8 degree-Celsius temperature had been recorded in the vicinity of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City, 6 am on January 17.
"This is the lowest temperature in (Metro) Manila of the season," Aurelio confirmed.
But he clarified Pasay is not an ideal location to measure temperatures considering the pressures coming from the planes taking off and landing at airports.
Citing more reliable records in PAGASA, Aurelio noted they recorded 19.5 degree Celsius as the official lowest temperature to be experienced in Manila as of January 17.
He said the temperature was recorded at around 6 a.m. on Thursday inside the main headquarters of PAGASA in the Science Garden, Quezon City.
The weather forecaster explained the cold weather is brought about by the Northeast Monsoon or Hanging Amihan and winter winds coming from China and Siberia.
