At least eight fires occurred between New Year's Eve and noon of New Year's Day in several parts of Metro Manila, including at a building of the Philippine Normal University in Manila, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Text Fire Philippines (TFP) reported.
The fires hit Manila, Mandaluyong City, Quezon City, Pasig City and Navotas City, the BFP and TFP told the Philippines News Agency on Saturday.
BFP and TFP said the third floor of the Center for Teaching and Learning inside the PNU along Taft Avenue in Ermita, Manila was damaged by an hour-long fire which began at 10:15 a.m.
Responding BFP and TFP firefighters were able to put out the fire by 11:30 a.m. Arson probers said the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
An apartment building along Sierra Madre Street in Mandaluyong City was also damaged by fire that broke out at 9 a.m. and was placed under control by responding firefighters at 10:30 a.m. Cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
In Quezon City, an abandoned house was damaged by fire of still unknown origin along Dagupan Street, Barangay Mariblo, at around 9:00 a.m. It was placed under control at 9:30 a.m. - pna
