The manufactures and vendors of prohibited firecrackers may find themselves behind bars this turn of the year, as the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) calls on the Filipino people to report those who violate the law.
In an interview with PIA-NCR, BFP Deputy Directorate for Fire Safety and Prevention SSupt. Igmedio Bondoc said people should report manufacturers and vendors of prohibited firecrackers, as these poses a threat to one’s health and may cause physical injury.
The law prohibits the selling of firecrackers with gunpowder measuring to more than a third of a teaspoon.
To report illegal vendors, Bondoc said, the people can call the nearest fire station, or police precinct. “O kung nakalimutan natin ito, just dial 117 (Or, you may just dial 117 on your phone),†he said.
Under Republic Act 7183, the law regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices, those found guilty of selling illegal firecrackers, may be fined of not more than P30,000 or imprisonment of not less than six months or more than one year.
“Kasabay rito ang pagkumpiska ng mga illegal na firecrackers na kanilang ibenebenta (Also, the illegal firecrackers that they are selling will be confiscated by authorities),†he added.
