The national police reiterated its call against barangay tanods posing as bodyguards of candidates in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Oct. 25.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesman Senior Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., said the PNP will closely monitor the tanods who will be serving as bodyguards and that they will be questioned.
“The PNP will not tolerate watchmen to engage themselves in partisan political activities,†Cruz said.
Last Sunday, PNP Chief Director General Raul Bacalzo issued the directive to all regional and provincial directors and chiefs of police to double its effort and conduct 24-hour checkpoint operations.
Bacalzo also ordered his men to expand its checkpoint operations and seek the assistance of the people from barangays as watchmen.
The barangay watchmen will help the police in securing checkpoints which will be installed in the barangays.
Meanwhile, Cruz said that at least 2,301 areas nationwide were placed as election hotspots for the upcoming elections.
