The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) lauded the move of the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) in throwing the petition for bail against two of Alabang Boys.
PDEA Director General Dionisio Santiago said the decision of Hon. Judge Juanito Guerrero, presiding judge of RTC Branch 204, to deny the petition for bail of the accused Richard Brodett and Jorge Joseph was right as it was based on “massive evidence†against the suspects.
In a 15-page order, Judge Guerrerro said, “wherefore, premises considered and finding the evidence adduced by the prosecution as strong to warrant the conviction of accused, for the offense charged sans presentation of evidence to the contrary, the petitions for filed both accused are denied for lack of merit.â€
“This is another partial victory for the national anti-drug campaign. We are likewise grateful to the City Prosecutor’s Office of Muntinlupa City, represented by Assistant City Prosecutors Agripino Baybay III and Dale Liban for competently presenting our case in court. The PDEA Legal and Prosecution Service under lawyer Alvaro Lazaro will continue to work hand-in-hand with the prosecutors to ensure a complete victory in this legal battle.â€
In a related development, the PDEA and cause-oriented anti-drug groups are closely monitoring the ongoing Motion for Reconsideration on the Petition for Bail of another Alabang Boy, Joseph Tecson that is pending before RTC Branch 227 in Quezon City under Judge Elvira Panganiban. This Petition was earlier denied by Judge Jaime Salazar on July 2, 2010. Judge Salazar inhibited himself from the case as requested by the defense.
